Why Is My Dock De-Icer Not Opening Ice?

A marine de-icer commonly fails to open ice due to shallow-water loss of thermal stratification, improper mounting angle, electrical GFCI tripping, or propeller clogging. Checking water depth, inspecting electrical connections, removing any extension cord, and clearing weed wraps resolves most field issues.

Sacrificial Anode Maintenance

Kasco and U.S. Solar Mounts de-icers use a sacrificial zinc anode on the motor shaft to reduce galvanic corrosion in brackish or salt water. Inspect the anode roughly every 90 days and replace it once it is significantly eroded to help protect the motor housing and seals.
